Thomas Morley
(1557-1602)
Thomas Morley is regarded by many as the best composer of English madrigals during the Renaissance. Morley also wrote for a number of other genres including balletts and canonets. Today, Morley's madrigals are considered standard repertoire for high school and college chamber groups, and they are included in just about any collection of a cappella or Renaissance music. In addition to his work as a composer, he also edited collections of Italian madrigals and earned his living as an organist for England's finest cathedrals.
